Scholarships & Awards
Each year, The Arc New York presents scholarships and awards to individuals pursuing degrees in special education, physical or occupational therapy, or a field related to intellectual or other developmental disabilities, and those who go above and beyond to improve this field.
Joseph T. Weingold Scholarship
Scholarship for Special Education Degree Program Students
For employees of a Chapter of The Arc New York.
This $3,000 scholarship per recipient is presented annually to full-time Chapter employees who wish to further their education with the intention of contributing to the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities. The scholarship is paid in two installments of $1,500, one per semester. The funds must be claimed within a four-year period from the time the scholarship is awarded. Four scholarships are presented annually.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Students must be enrolled in a New York State degree program, leading to a special education certification
- Students must be a New York State resident
- Students currently receiving a scholarship through The Arc New York are not eligible to receive simultaneous scholarships

Jonathan Weingold Scholarship
Scholarship for The Arc New York Chapter Employees
Four scholarships in the amount of $3,000 are presented annually to full time Chapter employees who wish to further their education with the intention of contributing to the field of intellectual or developmental disabilities. The scholarship is paid in installments of $1,500 per semester for any year the student is enrolled in college. The funds must be claimed within a four-year period from the time the scholarship was awarded.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Student applicant must be actively employed full time by a Chapter of The Arc New York
- Student must be enrolled in a minimum of 3 credits hours per semester
- Students currently receiving a scholarship through The Arc New York are not eligible to receive simultaneous scholarships

Arthur W. Pense Scholarship
Scholarship for Nursing, Physical or Occupational Therapy Degree Program Students
Two scholarships in the amount of $3,000 are presented annually. The scholarship is paid in installments of $1,500 per semester for any year the student is enrolled in college. The funds must be claimed within a four-year period from the time the scholarship was awarded.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Students must be enrolled in a degree program related to nursing, or physical or occupational therapy. Students may include a 2-3 month fieldwork program as part of their degree/eligibility
- Students must be a New York State resident
- Students currently receiving a scholarship through The Arc New York are not eligible to receive simultaneous scholarships

James F. Reville Scholarship
Scholarship for Full Time College Students in a Program Related to the Field of Intellectual or Other Developmental Disabilities
Two scholarships in the amount of $3,000 are presented annually. The scholarship is paid in installments of $1,500 per semester for any year the student is enrolled in college. The scholarship is presented to an individual who intends to pursue a career related to the field of intellectual or other developmental disabilities such as behavioral sciences, social work, healthcare administration and management or psychology. The funds must be claimed within a four-year period from the time the scholarship was awarded.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Student must be enrolled full-time in any year of their college education
- Student’s training must be in a field related to intellectual or other developmental disabilities
- Student must be a New York State resident
- Students currently receiving a scholarship through The Arc New York are not eligible to receive simultaneous scholarships
